Breast Augmentation Recovery Time

Breast Augmentation Recovery Time

Breast Augmentation Recovery Time: Breast augmentation is a cosmetic surgery that increases the size of the breasts. To create aesthetic results, surgeons make an incision and use implants or transfer fat to improve the volume of the breasts.

When considering this procedure, many women wonder what the recovery time for breast augmentation is. The answer to this question will depend on several different factors.

We’ll go over what you can expect during your breast augmentation recovery time and tell you exactly how long it will take to recover from this procedure.

What Is The Recovery Time For Breast Augmentation?

The recovery time for breast augmentation is different for each patient as many different things affect healing. For instance, the size of your implant and even the placement of the implant can change your recovery time.

Age can be another factor that affects your post-op healing process. More importantly, depending on your surgeon’s skill and experience level, your recovery time can shorten or lengthen.

Typically, though, the recovery time for breast augmentation will last anywhere from six to eight weeks. You want to follow your doctor’s instructions carefully and refrain from heavy lifting and other strenuous activities right after surgery.

This will ensure that your recovery time doesn’t take longer than it needs to. Read the next section of this post to see what the timeline for your recovery will be like.

What to Expect During Your Breast Augmentation Recovery Time?

The recovery time for breast augmentation does differ, but we’ll talk about what you can expect each step of the way. To keep your breast augmentation recovery time on track, be patient and listen to your body as it heals.

Refrain from overworking yourself and let your doctor know if you are experiencing excess pain, irritation, or other unexpected symptoms.

Right After Your Surgery

After the operation, you will notice a few different symptoms. Most patients report soreness in the breast, swelling, and bruising.

It’s also common to feel disoriented and even a little confused after waking up from surgery. You might even feel a little nauseous and weak.

Tightness in the chest area might also occur, especially if your implant was placed under your pectoral muscle. Your breast might also feel overly sensitive to touch or movement or they might feel completely numb.

These symptoms are normal but will go away over time. However, you’ll have to stay in the recovery room for a few hours. This way the anesthesia can wear off and your doctor can monitor you for any abnormal symptoms.

Finally, once you leave make sure you have someone that can take you home. A reliable friend or family member should watch over you for the next couple of days and help keep you comfortable as you recover.

Twenty-Four Hours After Surgery

In the first twenty-four hours after surgery, expect to feel a lot of pain and discomfort. You have just undergone major surgery so your body will need more time to recover. We recommend laying down and taking aspirin and any other medication your doctor recommends during this time.

First Week After Surgery

Most patients report high levels of discomfort and pain three to five days after surgery. This will depend on how your body heals.

In some cases, a pain pump could be prescribed to help you get through those first few days of recovery. Most women will only need over-the-counter medication for pain but talk to your doctor if you need something stronger.

After seven days, your body should start to adjust to your implants or fat transfer. Pain will be milder and won’t be as debilitating. A lot of patients can return to their job and other responsibilities after a week.

But, remember to follow your doctor’s instructions and don’t overwork yourself as you heal. Refrain from intense workout routines, lifting your arms over your head, and any form of heavy lifting.

Three to Four Weeks After Surgery

In the third to fourth week of recovery, you should have minimal to no pain. Your breasts will start recovering more rapidly. This means that swelling, bruising, and tenderness will begin to diminish.

If you are up to it, your doctor might recommend exercise and other non-intensive activities that will keep you active and healthy. Again, though, don’t push yourself too hard, and make sure to keep wearing your supportive recovery bra to continue the healing process.

Six to Eight Weeks After Surgery

Six weeks to eight weeks is the time that most women will fully recover from breast augmentation surgery. At this point, you should be able to do the heavy lifting, strenuous workouts, and other normal activities.

Make sure to schedule a follow-up appointment with your doctor. This way they can assess the results of your surgery and make sure there are no complications.

Tip For Recovery: How to Keep Your Breast Augmentation Recovery Time On Track

No one wants an increased recovery time when getting a breast augmentation done. Follow these tips to ensure that you have a manageable recovery with minimal complications:

  • Get a supportive recovery bra without an underwire. These bras will make the healing process go by faster and keep your breast well-supported as they recover.
  • Take pain medication and other meds your doctor recommends. Some women might need antibiotics during healing. If this is the case take the full course to prevent complications.
  • Pick comfortable clothes for yourself. Your outfits should be loose, breathable, and easy to put on.
  • Get help from people you trust. It will be hard to do chores, care for kids, and complete your other responsibilities while you recover. You don’t want to strain or stress yourself out during this time.
  • Listen to your doctor’s instructions and don’t do strenuous activity. You also want to get a good night’s rest to recover fully.
  • Prepare meals that are healthy and filling. Sugary and fatty foods will make it harder for your body to heal. Instead, eat protein-rich foods along with fruits and vegetables.
