What is this vaccination drive?

Los Angeles reported 8,243 new cases of COVID-19 and 98 deaths on Sunday. 

This is quite an overwhelming figure. With the addition of new cases, the total Covid-19 claims rose to 1,073,111 and 15,260 fatalities.

Of course, there is panic among residents, and they want to get COVID-19 vaccination shots as soon as possible.

Los Angeles County is giving vaccination to its residents at County’s five coronavirus vaccination centers. These centers are Magic Mountain, Cal State Northridge, the Pomona Fairplex, the Forum in Inglewood, and the County Office of Education in Downey.

Los Angeles County expects to receive about 143,900 more doses of vaccine this week under the Pomona Fairplex COVID Vaccine initiative.

But one should note that people need to receive two doses of the medication within a gap of 3-4 weeks. Therefore, the vaccine arriving this week will be used to give second doses to residents who have already been administered the first shot. 

According to an estimate by Public Health Director, only 37,900 new vaccine doses would be given to people to take their first vaccine dose.

Residents who get their first dose of the vaccine at these vaccination sites will get the date and location to receive their second dose. They will be automatically registered for their next dose appointment and will also get email reminders.

According to Dr. Paul Simon, the Department’s chief science officer, the State of California will be improving the vaccine-appointment website. 

Los Angeles County system is connected to the state’s website. Therefore, they hope the Los Angeles County vaccination system to operate more evenly this week.

Los Angeles County also offers a phone reservation system at 833-540-0473, from 8 a.m-8:30 p.m. But it is advised to use the call-in system only if one cannot use the website.

Final verdict:

This week, the County had received about 853,000 total doses and already administered 441,140 doses of vaccine.

Health officials say that these numbers are likely to be much higher due to delays in tallying vaccination totals. 

This is an excellent initiative by the government to control the pandemic.
